2026 National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Macao University Students Concludes Successfully
The “2026 National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Macao University Students,” co-founded by the Beijing (Universities) Macao Students Union and the 369 Partner Town Youth Entrepreneurship Association, successfully concluded on 16 May 2026. Nine finalist teams competed for the championship, first runner-up and second runner-up, showcasing the creativity, execution capability and entrepreneurial potential of Macao’s university students.
The competition aims to provide a practical platform for young people to explore entrepreneurship, offering participants targeted training, guidance on drafting business plans and related support. Through this process, the organisers hope to help Macao students better understand market mechanisms, strengthen their business acumen and more effectively integrate into the country’s overall development strategy.
Serving on the judging panel for the third consecutive year, Ms. Cheng Cuiling, who has taught at a university business school for over eight years, noted a clear improvement in the overall quality of this year’s entries. She observed that teams performed better not only in terms of real-world industry application and payback models, but also in business model design, product maturity, completeness of supporting documentation and the visual quality of their presentations.
Ms. Cheng highlighted that projects focusing on healthcare and people’s livelihoods, as well as those targeting niche scenarios within Macao’s cultural and tourism sectors, demonstrated particularly strong social value. These projects were seen as closely aligned with genuine market needs while also contributing to Macao’s positioning and long-term development, reflecting a deeper level of thought among student entrepreneurs about national and local priorities.
During the final commentary session, Ms. Cheng stressed that an entrepreneurship competition should not be treated merely as a technology showcase. She encouraged participating teams to use their limited presentation time to clearly articulate several key points: their insight into the market and the specific pain points of their target users; the solutions they propose; the current stage of development; who is willing to pay for their product or service; how the project can be scaled; and what major risks it faces and how these will be managed.
She added that if teams can present these aspects in a concise and structured manner, both the judging process and subsequent opportunities for implementation and resource matching will be significantly enhanced. The organisers expressed the hope that, through the continued organisation of this competition and related training activities, more young talents with both an international outlook and a strong sense of commitment to Macao will be nurtured, further supporting Macao’s young people in integrating into the broader national development landscape.
